Damaged

So I finally picked up the latest expansion for Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess and have be running around doing stuff and it seems rather fun so far with lots of things to waste my time on. At the same time I picked up Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. I still haven’t opened it of course but I noticed yesterday that the packaging is slightly damaged. I’m very tempted to bring it back to the store because I can’t stand imperfections in anything I collect. Still debating if I should lie about why I’m returning it, like saying that it was a gift and the person already has it, or just admit that I had have some kind of disorder to the clerk at EB Games.

Perhaps if someone actually read this blog I could weigh the opinions of others…

Gourmet Food & Wine Show

On the weekend I went to check out the Gourmet Food & Wine Show and all in all it was pretty fun. Lot’s to drink and good food. I’m continually amazed by the general atmosphere of shows like the Gourmet Food & Wine Show. Everyone is just always so happy. I guess that’s what happens when you mix alcohol and good food.

Domain Registry of Canada

So I got a letter on Friday from the Domain Registry of Canada that I didn’t open until today because at first I thought it was from the CIRA and related to the reginapizza.ca domain that I recently renewed.

The letter looks all fancy and “official” so at first you think that it’s from some government agency and was actually regarding my michaeltozzo.com domain is going to expire in a few months. The Domain Registry of Canada conveniently provides a way to “renew your domain name to retain exclusive rights to it on the Web” and informs you that “now is the time to transfer and renew your name from your current Registrar to the Domain Registry of Canada”. The notice also warns you that “failure to renew your domain name by the expiration date may result in a loss of your online identity making it difficult for your customers and friends to locate you on the Web”. The clincher though is the price. To renew my domain for 1 year with the Domain Registry of Canada it’s a whopping $40. It’s $70 for 2 years and $160 for 5 years.

I can see a lot of people getting scared or thinking that the Domain Registry of Canada and filling out the form and transferring their domain over and making the Domain Registry of Canada their new registrar. I think sending out letters like the one I received is pretty shady. It wouldn’t be so bad if it was a good deal but you can easily get a domain registered for $15 a year so $40 or even $32 if you sign up for 5 years is a little on the pricey side. But seriously, unsolicited mail from someone trying to get your business? Who does that?

Free fellatio on the TTC

So I was on my way home from work this evening and it was rather cold and there was a little bit of drizzle and a driver of Sherbourne bus decided to whiz past the sizable crowd since the bus was rather full. Well he didn’t really whiz by, but anyway the point is that everyone on the bus stop was mad that they didn’t get on the first bus that came. So the next bus is on the horizon and a nice lady says a variation of the following to her companion “Oooh, hopefully there will be room on this one”. To this statement, another gentleman responded flashing his Metropass, “I paid $109 for this *bleep*ing thing and this is the kind of service we get? I should get free fellatio!”. Well, he didn’t really say “fellatio” but I’m sure you get the idea.

$109 is the new price since yet another fare hike went in to effect within the last few weeks. I took a peek at how Vancouver’s fares are structured and well… they do things way different. Their system is zoned and travel within a single zone is relatively inexpensive and less than in Toronto whereas traveling across all three zones works out to be more expensive than Toronto. Fares are also reduced at night and all day on weekends and holidays which is actually really nice. I also noticed that the Vancouver system does other cool things for it’s ridership like offering companies the chance to get their employees monthly passes at a reduced rate and they worked with Google to get their routes in to Google Transit. Sounds to me that the TTC should consider looking at how other transit authorities handle things and incorporate some new ideas in to our system.
