$109 is the new price since yet another fare hike went in to effect within the last few weeks. I took a peek at how Vancouver’s fares are structured and well… they do things way different. Their system is zoned and travel within a single zone is relatively inexpensive and less than in Toronto whereas traveling across all three zones works out to be more expensive than Toronto. Fares are also reduced at night and all day on weekends and holidays which is actually really nice. I also noticed that the Vancouver system does other cool things for it’s ridership like offering companies the chance to get their employees monthly passes at a reduced rate and they worked with Google to get their routes in to Google Transit. Sounds to me that the TTC should consider looking at how other transit authorities handle things and incorporate some new ideas in to our system.
